Summer Reading – BART asks students to read at least one book over the summer. Please review the reading list links below as some grades have related assignments to complete.

Middle School Students: Rising grade 7 students may want to read Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha LaiHere’s or something else on the grade 7 summer reading list. Next year's grade 8 students have lots of great options, including graphic novel A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness or any other title on the grade 8 summer reading list

High School Students: Freshman English focuses on the American Identity Through Literature English; grade 9 students may consider reading Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief or one of the many suggested books on the grade 9 summer reading list. In between Celtics’ games, Sophomores may want to read The Meaning of Sports - Why Americans Watch Baseball, Football, and Basketball and What They See When They Do by Michael Mandelbaum or something with a local connection, such as  Mountains Beyond Mountains - The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer A man who would cure the world by Tracy Kidder (Dr. Paul Farmer has ties to North Adams, MA). Check out this link for other grade 10 summer reading list tomes. There are more wonderful books for Juniors and Seniors on the grades 11-12 summer reading list including Purple Hibiscus by Chimananda Adiche and As I Lay Dying by America’s Nobel Laureate William Faulkner. Did you know this has one of the shortest chapters you’ll find in literature?“My mother is a fish” is only slightly longer than Frank McCourt’s final chapter of Angela’s Ashes “‘Tis.”!
